Beware of Dog

Honey has been really good with Madi. Her new favorite hang-out is Madi's room where she keeps watch over the baby. She even gets up with Mom in the middle of the night when Mom feeds Madi.

The Morning After

Mom and Dad made it through the weekend with Madi. She sleeps 3-4 hours between feedings so they get a fair amount of sleep - especially Dad. Apparently, he's immune to the sounds of a crying baby and alarms from the heart/respiration monitor (don't worry - they were false alarms).

D-Day

Madison was discharged from the hospital today! She waved farewell to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at John Muir Hospital. It's been a long 9 weeks since her birth, but she is worth the wait.

Can we go yet?

Madi passed her car seat study today so she's one step closer to home. She also got all her newborn vaccinations - 5 shots! Poor girl took them like a champ.

Ironically, today was Mom's due date.

Back to Plan A

Madi is going home this weekend, but she's going home with oxygen. The doctor put her back on supplemental oxygen because her lungs haven't gotten much better during the last week that she's been off the oxygen. So once the equipment is set-up, Madi can go home.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Madi continues to do well without supplemental oxygen. She's outgrown preemie diapers and has moved on to the newborn size.

Pimp My Ride

Dad bought Madi a new car today (so he says). Apparently, you can't fit a standard child seat in a Porshe, so bye bye convertible. Hope Madi likes the color orange.

Something Missing?

The nasal canula has been removed! Madison has been taken off of the supplemental oxygen and can breathe on her own.

O2 is Gooooood

It looks like Madi will be going home next week but she'll be going home with oxygen. She has mild chronic lung disease from prematurity so she may need to continue supplemental oxygen for 1-2 more months. The doctor said there's no reason to keep her in the hospital so Mom and Dad just need to get themselves ready for her homecoming.

Visiting with Grandpa Mark

Grandpa Mark arrived from the Taiwan the previous night and is enjoying his time with his newest granddaughter.

5 Pounds

Madi gained 70 grams (~2 oz) over night and has reached the 5lb mark. They took out the feeding tube again because she's been bottle feeding really well. She breastfed today for 30 minutes! Although Madi's been making great progress with her feedings, she's still on supplemental oxygen. Hopefully, she'll wean off the oxygen soon and may go home in 2-3 more weeks.

Outie

Mom and Dad thought Madi had an outie for a belly button. It turns out she has an umbilical hernia. No worries - it's common in preemies and will likely resolve on its own by the time she's 2-3 years old.

Burp!

The feeding tube was removed from Madison today so that she can take all her feedings from a bottle. She did really well until she got too tired after a few consecutive feedings. The feeding tube is now in her nose in case she can't finish a bottle.

How do you lose all your pregnancy weight in 1 month?

You pump it all out. Here is a month's worth of Mom's breastmilk. It filled up the freezer so Dad found a solution for breastmilk storage. The Gladiator Freezerator is now in the garage with ample room for more milk.

Who does Madi look like?
