Madison got her first of 5 RSV vaccinations today. Unlike the flu shot a week ago, this one hurt! But it's really important that Madi is protected against RSV - a common viral infection of the respiratory system. Most of us have probably caught RSV but thought it was just a bad cold. For preemies, RSV can be more serious. Half of preemies are hospitalized during their first flu/cold season and Madi's at even higher risk because of her chronic lung disease. She'll be getting a shot every month until RSV season is over in March. Good thing the Synagis vaccinations are covered by insurance - at $1000/shot, it's a drop in the bucket for the this million dollar baby.
CORRECTION: Just got the medical insurance statement - the actualy cost of the Synagis vaccination is $2600/shot.
